How to Buy from DLsite Outside Japan (2026): Payment, English Versions, Refunds and Fixes

1. Pay

Short answer: if your card fails, buy viviON points and pay with points. DLsite always bills in Japanese yen; other currencies on the site are only a guide.

Paying by card

• DLsite's payment guide shows JCB as the card brand, and says cards issued outside Japan may not complete. It recommends buying points instead. DLsite payment guide
• If a card is declined: check that it allows international use and 3-D Secure. Cards issued abroad, debit and prepaid cards may not work, and your bank may add an overseas fee. Card errors (DLsite help)

Points and serial codes

• 1 viviON point = 1 yen. Points are bought from “Buy Points” in My Page, from 1,000 points. They expire 1 year after you last got or used points. Buying points
• Most in-site point payment methods are for Japan. DLsite's help suggests buying a 16-digit serial code on an official partner site and entering it at “Enter Serial Code”. What is a serial code

2. Check the language before you buy

Where to look

• Each DLsite work page has a Supported languages field. On this site we show the same field on every work page, with the date we checked it.
• DLsite's search and rankings can be filtered by supported language, and the English site has an “English Works” link. Advanced search
• Translated editions are often separate products with their own work ID; buying the Japanese one does not include them. Separate editions

Kinds of translation on DLsite

• Translators Unite (みんなで翻訳): works the rights holder has approved are translated by fan translators and sold on DLsite. DLsite's native staff check them before sale. Sound effects and hand-drawn text may stay untranslated, and bonus items are usually not translated. About Translators Unite

3. Refunds

Short answer: no — DLsite's legal notice says completed purchases can't be refunded or canceled, and points you used aren't returned. DLsite legal notice

What DLsite does cover

• If a work can't be downloaded or viewed and DLsite confirms it can't be fixed or is defective, it cancels the payment if you contact it within 10 days of purchase. Problems caused by your own device or connection are not covered.
• Double charge: if your purchase history shows the same order twice, DLsite cancels it automatically in about 2 business days. If only your card statement shows it twice, contact DLsite. Double charges

Bought the wrong language?

• The Japanese edition and a translated edition are often separate products with different work IDs. Buying one does not give you the other. If English data is later added to the same ID, you can get it by downloading again. DLsite help

4. If a work won't open

1. Extract with the right tool

• If Windows' built-in extractor fails, DLsite recommends Unicode-compatible software such as 7-Zip; on Mac, The Unarchiver. How to extract
• Split files: put all parts in the same folder and run part1.exe. If that fails, open it with 7-Zip.
• Errors like 0x80004005: extract again with 7-Zip. Very long paths (over 255 bytes) fail — extract in a short folder such as C:\DLsite. Security software may flag files wrongly; DLsite says it virus-checks every work before sale. Extraction errors

2. Garbled text or “file not found”: system locale

• Garbled text, “File not found”, an empty folder after extracting, or a multi-language work staying in Japanese can mean your PC's system locale is not Japanese. Locale errors

• Then delete the files you downloaded and download and extract again — DLsite notes that changing the setting alone will not fix files that are already garbled.

3. No PC? Use the browser or apps

5. On your phone
